5G Seacurity an autonomous UAS watch over the North Sea

As part of Belgium's federal flagship programme 5G Seacurity, Officers On Watch spent over two years bringing maritime expertise, usecases and quality assurance to one of the most demanding test environments imaginable: the North Sea, connected by the country's first 5G Stand-Alone network.

At the heart of the programme stood Citymesh's Nokia Drone-in-a-Box solution an autonomous drone platform on stand-by around the clock, launching, recovering and recharging its drone while streaming high-resolution video and thermal imagery over a private 5G connection. No crew, no support vessel, no delay: eyes on the water within minutes was the goal.

OOW contributed the maritime domain knowledge that turns technology into operations: nautical risk analyses, operational user stories and test guidance for security scenarios in an offshore environment. Working alongside Securitas, dotOcean and PHOENIX AI®, we helped define how an autonomous aerial watch, sensor networks and AI-assisted monitoring come together into one verified picture of activity at sea for decision-makers in government, ports and defence. The result is more than a successful demonstration.
